Today, I'll be posting a "throwback" product review here in my blog featuring Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color Lipsticks. I already posted these photos in Instagram before around the year 2015. During that time I wasn't considered a blogger yet since I only wrote product reviews in Instagram (it still is my microblog for local products anyway up to today though coz some sponsors prefer that I post the product review there, hahaha!) Apart from my throwback photos, I'll also do a dupe comparison between WnW lippies and MAC lipsticks soooooo read on! Years ago, beauty enthusiasts were raving about this brand because they have noticed that Wet n Wild Matte Lipsticks are close to perfect dupe for MAC bullet lipsticks! At that time, I only had 6 MAC lipsticks in my collection and eventhough I wanted to collect them all, they were just so expensive so I had to settle for dupes for the mean time. You see, I've been a believer that sometimes high-quality products are like precious gems hiding behind affordable price tags. In this case, I got the jackpot! Impulsive buyer is what I had always been, so just imagine my excitement when I bought 10 pieces of Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color Lipsticks all in one go! I was surprised on how cheap it was, I was automatically sold! With the price of Php 160 per piece, it was like having 10 pieces of Wet n Wild lipsticks at the price of almost 2 MAC lippies! I just couldn't let it pass back then. P.S. I bought these from an online seller in Instagram 3 years ago, however, I couldn:t find her account anymore, so if you are interestes to buy these, you can still buy some from other makeup sellers online. The 10 shades that I bought were Just Peachy, Bare It All, Pinkerbell, Think Pink, Dollhouse Pink, Don't Blink Pink, Mauve Outta Here, Sugar Plum Fairy, Cherry Picking, and Stoplight Red. I guess it's quite obvious by now that I gravitate towards warm nudes, pinks, and reds! The reason why I bought them was because I'd read several blog posts claiming that these shades are perfect dupes of some MAC lipstick shades! Of course I like dupes! Think Pink - a very light pink with neutral undertone. This is slightly pinker than Just Peachy which is warmer. This is also flattering to any skintones with fair to medium shade. I don't own a lipstick that is a perfect dupe to this one, Coral Bliss is more peachy and more sheer. Bare It All - a nude-brownish shade with neutral undertone, it is universally flattering to any skintone may they be fair, light, medium or dark! They said it's a good MAC Velvet Teddy Dupe, they are not 100% exact dupes though but slightly close enough! BIT is a bit warmer and brighter than VT which is cooler, a bit darker and more muted. Just Peachy - light peachy pink with warm undertones, perfect for light-medium Asian skin tones! They said it's a Lime Crime Babette dupe, based on some reviews they look similar but I have yet to try it! Just Peachy has a slight similarity with MAC's Coral Bliss, they differ in formula for the JP is matte and opaque while CB is kinda sheer. Pinkerbell - bright neon pink with neutral undertones, it's a similar dupe to MAC Viva Glam Nicki according to other bloggers, however since I don't own that shade, I can't be certain! The closest MAC lipstick shade that I have with this is Chatterbox. WnW Pinkerbell is a bit brighter, more neon, and cooler while Chatterbox is warmer, more muted, and darker. Nonetheless, the difference isn't that obvious once applied on the lips. Dollhouse Pink - it's a neon fluorescent milky pink with bluish undertone and hints of purple. They said that it's a dupe for MAC Pink Nouveau but I disagree, it's not even close BUT this color is still as pretty as is. Perfect for those who like bright bold colored lips! I personally find it too bright to be worn alone though so I prefer matching it with matte smoky brown eyeshadow to tone down its neon effect. I tried looking for a MAC lipstick that is closest to this shade and I couldn't find any. I find that MAC Candy Yum Yum is somehow similar in terms of being a poppy shade., however it's darker and more pink while Dollhouse Pink is neon. Mauve Outta Here - it's a mauvey shade that has a more hint of "orchid" violet shade. The color is universally flattering as well both for warm and cool undertones. I have yet to see its dupe in a high-end brand but still, this is a pretty shade nonetheless. Sugar Plum Fairy - a neutral plum berry shade that is universally flattering. It's a perfect MAC Rebel dupe according to my friend who has both lipsticks! It's also very similar to Happy Skin Girls Night Out shade according to her as well. SPF is a cheaper alternative but the color is just as good! I don't have MAC Rebel so I couldn't swatch it. Don't Blink Pink - a medium blue-based bright pink which I can consider as a "Barbie Pink" color! It brightens up my face which I love! It's said to be a MAC Viva Glam Miley dupe! Kinda similar in color, yes, but different in finish. I think MAC Pink Pigeon is a closer dupe though. DBP has a bit of sheen and a bit darker while PP is cooler and more matte. Still good enough! Cherry Picking - a deep reddish fuschia color that has neutral undertones. It also brightens my skin tone and makes my teeth look whiter which is a plus! It is said to be a MAC Love Goddess dupe, well based on the photos from the internet, I could say that they are indeed almost similar BUT since I don't have that shade, I ain't certain. The closest that I have is MAC Viva Glam Miley however VGM appears to be more sheer a bit lighter than CP. Since Wet n wild Stoplight Red is my favorite amongst the Wet n Wild collection, I did a close up comparison with MAC Ruby Woo and MAC Snow en Rouge MAC Ruby Woo lipstick has Retro Matte finish. It is totally matte - no sheen! Surprisingly, it's also a bit warmer in color and feels a bit heavier compared to its dupe. Its formula last way longer, it stays on for 4—5 hours without a greasy meal. Obviously, the packaging looks way more luxurious than its cheaper alternative. What do you expect with more than half a cost, right? On the other hand, Wet n Wild Stoplight Red's finish is semi-matte, it has a bit of sheen in it and it has more bluish tones than its high-end counterpart. It feels softer on the lips. When applied in person, the color difference between the two isn't that obvious however the difference in finish is a giveaway. WHAT I LIKE:
Upon buying this, I wasn't expecting so much but when I began swatching them on my arms and lips, I was surprised because they are highly pigmented, buildable from medium to full coverage, blurs my lip lines making them look fuller, and they apply smoothly on the skin and lips. I also like their semi-matte formula, it isn't drying nor is it hydrating but at least they dont' leave my lips feeling like drying out in the Sahara Desert! Wearing them on feels comfortable. WHAT I DISLIKE: The packaging kinda looks cheap and flimsy. The transparent top cover was kinda hard to remove and upon opening it, there's a tendency that the lipstick will be hit. But with this price, I get what I paid for in terms of packaging. Regarding the lipstick itself, the only downside in my honest opinion is that they are not that long-lasting and without a base of lip liner, they easily smudge and transfer. However I found a solution to this problem! It can be fixed by applying a lip liner, patting some loose powder on over it, applying the first layer of lipstick, blotting it with tissue, applying the 2nd layer of lipstick, and blotting it with tissue again. Doing so will help the lipstick set on your lips better so they will last longer and won't smudge on your lip sides and on your teeth! Am I satisfied with my purchase? With its low price tag and the quality, oh yes! I have tons of lipsticks already in my collection now but if I am short on budget, I wouldn't hesitate in buying these again! |
