I have always been fond of using coffee scrubs because of their irresistible energizing aroma, detoxifying properties, and effectiveness in exfoliating dead epidermal skin cells. I started using them 2 years ago and since then, I made sure that I'll never lose a stock at home ever again! I have different types of coffee scrubs that I use depending on my mood: creamy type, powder type, coffee-sugar type, coffee-salt type, etc. Usually, most of them are home-made, with natural and organic ingredients. I find them better than the usual scrubs I see commercially in the drugstore because the raw materials used in the home-made ones are not "tinipid" and are usually a much better worth for my money! Here, I'll be showing 10 different kinds of coffee scrubs from different brands that I have used. I'll be stating my review regarding their scents, texture, and effects on my skin. First, I'll feature the most basic must-have coffee scrub that I have ever tried. It is the simplest of the bunch but a lot can be done with it. 1. Natureals Bath and Body Coffee Detox Scrub from Instagram: @natureals_bathandbody Price: 100g/Php100, 250g/Php240 and 1kg/P800 Ingredients: Coffee Grounds, Natural Minerals, Shea Butter Oil, Activated Charcoal. No extenders added such as salt, sugar, vco or any economy oil. Texture: It is made in soft, fine powdery form that feels rough enough for exfoliation yet gentle enough not to scratch the skin. Exfoliation: Rating is 10/10! This scrub effectively removes dead skin cells when being rubbed gently for a few minutes focusing on a certain area at a time. It leaves the skin feeling smooth, clear, and looking radiant as well! Moisturizing: Rating is 6/10. While settling on wet skin, it feels a bit warm. After every use, my skin feels rejuvenated but my skin feels "normal" - not dry, not moisturized, just in the middle. I still have the need to put on lotion afterwards because my ultra-dry body skin type needs more moisturization compared to oily and normal skin types. Scent: Score: 10/10! The smell is of real black coffee (nothing synthetic) that awakens my senses! It boosts my mood whenever I get to use this! Blush Berry Farm Caffe Espresso Anti-Cellulite Body Scrub (from Instagram: @blushberryfarm) Price: Php 300 for 200 grams Ingredients: goat's milk, fresh brewed coffee, coffee grounds & extracts, shea butter, cocoa butter, aloe vera, chamomile, honey, sunflower, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, fragrance oil, and non-paraben preservative. Scent: It smells of sweet fresh brewed coffee with a hint of milk and chocolate scents - just like mocha-flavored dessert! Deliciously-smelling indeed; it awakens the senses and reenergize my mind! :) The scent sticks as well for a few minutes after bathing - best paired with their caffe espresso lotion for the ultimate coffee aromatheraphy experience! Texture: It is a lotion scrub that contains big and small coffee beads that aid in removing dead skin cells, while its rich cream helps in moisturizing the skin during exfoliation. It is non-drying and makes the skin softer and smoother to the touch! Exfoliation: I give this a 9/10 score because it effectively exfoliates the skin without being too harsh (just avoid scrubbing too hard though). It's perfect for those who have dry sensitive skin who finds salt scrubs and dry coffee scrubs too harsh. Moisturizing: Score: 10/10! Honestly, after using this scrub, I don't feel the need to use a lotion afterwards anymore even if I have dry skin on my body. But since I wanna maximize the benefits of their caffe espresso set, I still used their lotion (which I'll review later today). Also, another benefit of lotion scrubs is that they can be used as an alternative for shaving creams. ------------------------------------------- 3. Fabyoulush Coffee Detox Scrub (from Instagram: @fabyoulush_ph) Price: Php 1,800/ 1 kg; Php 1,100/ 500g) Ingredients: Coffee granules, shea butter, grapeseed oil, apricot scrub, vitamin e, phenoxyethanol, and fragrance oil. Scent: Very potent sweetened coffee with a mix of caramel scent! Once I opened the jar, the smell fills up the whole room! After rinsing the scrub off, the scent still remains on my skin after 2 hours! What's more is that even after closing the lid, I can still smell the scrub even if the jar is inches away from me! AROMATHERAPY ON POINT!!!! :-) Texture: It is an oily type of coffee scrub. It has fine coffee granules and apricot scrub that helps in exfoliating the skin: rough enough yet mild to use that even if I scrub a bit harder, it doesn't scratch my skin! I really love rubbing this on because the scent is relaxing and the beads with the combination of the oil is so comforting! Super sarap gamitin I don't wanna rinse it off even after 15minutes!!! 30minutes after taking a bath my husband said I smell like sweet coffee! Effects: In terms of exfoliation, moisturizing, and aromatheraphy, it's perfect!!! It exfoliated my micro-peeling skin and thoroughly sloughed off dead skin cells while it deeply moisturized my skin - I didn't have to use lotion anymore after bathing. My skin felt so smooth, silky and soft! Its aromatherapy, so far this is the most potent scent that I have used! I really love this! Bonus: I adore the simple yet beautiful packaging and it's such a nice thing for them to add the spatula tied with the ribbon! It's a small thing but helped a lot! Very crafty looking indeed! The most luxurious coffee body scrub that I have ever tried!!! 10/10 in score when it comes to moisturizing, exfoliating, and aromatherapy!!! My favorite coffee scrub I should say! I gotta keep this for days when I want to give myself some extra TLC to feel uber special! Hehe! ---------------------------------------- 4. Organic Blendz Skin Care Kape Scrub Exfoliant & Antioxidant (from Instagram: @kapescrub) Price: Php 300 for 150grams Organic Blendz Skin Care Anti-Cellulite Kape Scrub Exfoliant & Antioxidant is proudly locally-made int he Philippines and are 100% purely made with organic ingredients! Ingredients: Robusta coffee, Raw Cacao, Sea Salt, Brown Sugar, Raw Honey, Virgin Coconut Oil, Moringa Oil, and Vitamin E Scent: Bittersweet just like your favorite black coffee, its scent awakens my senses and re-energizes me! No coffee drink in the morning, no problem! Texture: It has a mixture of big and small grounded coffee bits which makes it rough enough to exfoliate dead skin cells thoroughly yet mild enough not to aggravate the skin. However, if you have sensitive skin, use this scrub gently to avoid scratches. Effects: I have dry skin but this scrub effectively removes rough patches and dead skin cells leaving my skin feeling clean and smooth to the touch. However, my skin feels tight and dry (though smooth) after using this scrub. This isn't so much of a moisturizing scrub on my skin (maybe because mine is ultra-dry) BUT it is a VERY EFFECTIVE EXFOLIANT just how I like my scrubs to be! Personally, I like my body scrubs better that way: a bit rough and abrasive, I feel they're more effective like that! p.s. Remember, results vary and preferences differ anyway, but if you have normal-dry skin this might work for you! ---------------------------------- 5. The Soapery's Kapeng Baraco Body Sugar Scrub (from Instagram: @thesoapery) Price: Php 350/ 300g tub Ingredients: ❤️ Made with Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil infused with Kapeng Barako, Vitamin E, Sugar and Kapeng Barako Grounds. Scent: Bittersweet exactly like what kapeng baraco smells like Texture: The sugar scrub and coffee beads exfoliated dead epidermal skin cells while the olive oil infused in it moisturized the skin. The formulation is abrasive enough for scrubbing yet gentle enough not to scratch the skin. Effects: Using this product feels oh-so-great: so luxurious it made my skin feel silky smooth and glowing afterwards! All-in-all, I LOVE THIS SCRUB! Using it makes me want to take a bath for a longer time! It's so easy to use and yet the effects are awesome: epidermal dead skin cells were effectively removed! It feels like I am in a spa while using this. You should try it out for yourself to know what I am talking about! This is one of my favorites! ------------------------------------ 6. Lean Mean Soap Crafts' Anti-Cellulite Coffee Scrubs (from Instagram: @leanmeansoapcrafts) Price: P280/350 grams Ingredients: Coffee Grounds with Honey, Dead Sea Salt, Dried Herbs, Muscovado Sugar, Vitamin A, C, D, E and Sunflower Oil This coffee scrub is an all-natural product without chemical preservatives which is why it is a safer alternative to be used compared to chemically-based scrubs available in the market. This product claims to prevent damage to skin cells by ultraviolet light from the sun, to improve the appearance of your skin through prevention of scars and to smoothen unwanted wrinkles. It claims that it is effective in the treatment of acne for it gets easily absorbed by the skin without clogging or blocking the pores. Scent: It smells like strong black coffee with a hint of sweet sugar. Texture: The coffee ground used here have small and medium bits that are rough enough to slough off dead skin yet the sunflower oil helps in moisturizing the skin, prepping it for the exfoliation process. The oil somehow sticks to moist skin so much, leaving me with brown oily residue which is why a soap is needed to rub and remove the scrub totally. Effects: I only use this scrub for my body because my face is kinda sensitive right now due to unpredictable pregnancy hormones. As for its anti-cellulite property, my thighs are kinda big right now, being a semi-plus size model that I am, I would have to work out if I wanna lose cellulite and fats (results might be better seen on skinnier individuals). Anyway, this scrub was able to remove those dry, flaky micro-peeling dead skin which left me with smoother skin. It is a really good scrub in terms of exfoliation but one should not expect it to act like a creamy moisturizing scrub that leaves you with well-moisturized skin. My body's skin is ultra-dry and after using this, I still have to use a lotion. Therefore, I recommend this scrub to those who are undergoing micro-peeling/ skin whitening sessions. If you want to use something abrasive enough, then this one is it! Just gently rub it onto the skin to avoid scratches. Use this scrub 1-3x a week depending on your skin type. -------------------------------------- 7. Skin Genie (formerly Skin Potion) Top of the Morning Coffee Scrub (from Instagram: @skingenie) Price: Php 250 / 100 grams Ingredients: herbal cream base, vco, premium fresh ground coffee, coffee oil,and phenoxyethanol. Scent: Mocha coffee mixed with cookies and cream ice cream! When I used this, the aroma really woke me up and the bathroom smells just like it! Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! I'm in-love!!! Texture: It is an emulsifying moisturizing creamy scrub that has medium-sized coffee bits in it that feels soft and gentle to use. It is the mildest coffee scrub that I have ever tried and I think it is suitable for using on sensitive skin though results vary, so best to do a patch test first. Effects: Using this scrub helped in gently exfoliating my skin and in removing dead skin cells without that harsh and stingy feel. After taking a bath, I didn't put on lotion anymore but my skin still felt silky smooth and soft. However when I transferred in an air conditioned place, my skin felt dry and cold, so only then did I have to use a moisturizer to combat the dryness. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! You know how much I love coffee, so when I say I love this, then I really love this! ----------------------------------------- 8. Nature Essentials Coffee & Dead Sea Salt Body Scrub (from Instagram: @natureessentials) Price: Php 199 for 60 grams This little pot right here consists of a gentle body scrub that helps in scrubbing away the dead skin cells that accumulated during my Holy Week backpacking trip! I think it also helped in gradually lightening my freshly tanned skin too last April. Scent: It smells of yummy sweetened milk-coffee biscuits! I dunno for some but it's lightly coffee-scented, I think others might expect a stronger coffee aroma but for me it is fine. Texture: - the dead sea salts are abrasive enough to exfoliate even the most stubborn of micro peeling dead epidermal skin cells BUT the powdered coffee bits in it lessened the abrasiveness of the sea salts so it was gentle enough to rub on my sensitive skin. Effects: - it helped in reducing the fluid retention that I got which caused big swelling on my feet and legs just after our Holy Week weekend trip. I guess massaging my legs and the properties of the coffee helped with that. Comments and suggestions: - I hope this product comes in a larger size though coz I was able to finish everything in just 3 usage! Medyo bitin sa last usage ko! Haha! ---------------------------------------------------- 9. V&M Naturals Spa Milk Salts Coffee (Order online at http://vnmnaturals.com) (Instagram: @vnmnaturals) Price: Php 235 for 200 grams This beloved body scrub has been discontinued by V&M Naturals months ago but I have heard that they are bringing this back for the mean time again so I will still be featuring it here (hoping that they MIGHT bring it back permanently!) Unlike the usual dark coffee scrubs that leaves "dirty spots" on the bath room afterwards, this one doesn't since its color is light nude beige. Ingredients: Skim milk, spa salts, and coffee mocha . Scent: Bittersweet coffee mocha that reminds me of biscuit snacks with mocha flavored filling like Hansel's biscuits! Texture: Similar to other milk salts, it's abrasive enough to thoroughly exfoliate dead skin cells. It isn't that mild so it is best to rub this gently to avoid scratches. Effect: Since this is a very effective exfoliant, it leaves the skin smooth, glowing and radiant. Using a lotion afterwards is still a must because it doesn't have moisturizing properties like the cream and oil-based coffee scrubs. My only comment is that, hypersensitive skin should be wary of using spa salts because they tend to be too harsh if applied with more pressure. Use with caution! Don't apply on wounds, scratches and cuts. . All-in-all, I love this! I get to enjoy the aromatherapy of coffee scent without having to deal with the "dirt" that coffee scrubs leave behind in the bathroom after being rinsed. Although, of course, the real coffee scrubs made with coffee grounds have a different effect compared to this! ---------------------------------------------- 10. The Yellow Cocoon Velvet Lush Scrub (from Instagram: @theyellowcocoon) Price: 150 grams-Php 200 / 250 grams- Php 320. Product Description & Ingredients: Creamy lush of shea butter with real apricot beads and premium fine coffee ground. Indulge your skin with this thick creamy scrub and enjoy velvety smooth skin after every wash! Scent: Nutty with a faint coffee smell. I suggest that they make its smell more coffee-ish, sweeter and stronger but then that's only my preference but then again, those who like unscented or faintly-scented beauty products might prefer this even more! Texture: Very creamy - gentle enough for sensitive skin yet rough enough to slough away dead skin cells. Effects: This gentle scrub was able to smoothen the majority of my skin after every use BUT when my skin is extra dry and micro-peeling, this wasn't able to totally remove all the dead epidermal skin cells: when towel drying, there are still a few dry patches left (that felt like skin dirt but they're really not). Conclusion: This scrub is more suitable for people who have very sensitive skin. This is mild to use which can be a good thing for others, but for those who are undergoing whitening regimen experiencing micro-peeling, this can be a bit too gentle for their liking or needs. If you have sensitive skin and you prefer a scrub that has only a gentle smell, I highly recommend this product to you! ------------------------------------------- 11. The Yellow Cocoon Latte Macchiato Face & Body Scrub (from Instagram: @theyellowcocoon) Price: Php 160/300 grams Product Description: A hint of coffee in your milk! Scent: It smells like caffe latte frapuccino: coffee with milk but it's more on the bittersweet side. It awakens the senses when you sniff it. The aroma is just so yummy, it's so good! Texture: It's dry and powdered: you have to wet your skin first before applying this to make them stick onto your skin. It's rough enough to exfoliate dead skin cells yet gentle enough not to scratch the skin. It can be used by those who have sensitive skin as well as long as they are careful in rubbing this on. Just be gentle! :-) Effects: In terms of exfoliation, it's great! It was able to make my skin glowing and smoother! Even when my skin is micro-peeling, it was able to slough them dead skin off! Take note though that since it is a dry kind of scrub, it might make the skin a li'l bit dry so using a lotion afterwards is a must. My skin is also cleaner which I like plus it also neutralizes any smell that comes in contact with your body! :-) Conclusion: Therefore, I can recommend this scrub to anyone whether they have oily or dry skin, for those who have hyper-sensitive skin, just be cautious and rub gently! If someone is having a problem with body odor, they can also benefit from using this because it will neutralize any smell, just make sure that they let it stay on their skin for 10-15 minutes to maximize this body scrub's benefit! :-) So, here they are my favorite coffee scrubs! How about you, do you have any coffee scrubs from certain brands that you swear by? Or do you have some D-I-Y coffee body scrubs recipes that you would love to share?
